Olicana Historical Society

The Olicana Historical Society presents an annual winter programme of lectures and a summer programme of excursions linked, where possible, to the lectures. The winter meetings take place from September to April on the third Thursday in the month.

2007 - 2008 Lecture Programme

The venue is Church House, Church Street, Ilkley, and the lectures start at 7.30 p.m. followed by refreshments.

Details of the summer excursions, which are open to members only, are publicised at the March and April meetings.

Annual subscription is currently £6.00 and a small charge is made for refreshments. Non-members are welcome at a charge of £2 per lecture.

The Society has a lending library of books and periodicals for members and a selection of these are brought to the winter meetings. A catalogue of publications in the Society's library, which also identifies articles of local interest from the periodicals, is also available at these meetings.

The Society aims to provide a varied programme of subject and chronological matter. It occasionally puts on a day school, either alone or in conjunction with the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, on a subject of special interest.

In an attempt to promote an interest in things historical among the young, the Society awards a yearly History Prize to the pupil at Ilkley Grammar School who submits the best "A" level History project.
