The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents - The Musical!

Sir Terry Makes It Happen
The generosity of one of Britain's best-selling and best-loved authors has led to a blockbuster show being staged in Ilkley next month.
Sir Terry Pratchett gave his blessing to a proposal by Ilkley author Neil Hanson and musician Keiron Anderson, to turn Sir Terry's Carnegie award-winning book "The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents." into a musical. Furthermore, hearing that it was to be staged by students at Ilkley Grammar School, Sir Terry waived his rights to any fees for the performances and instead asked for a collection to be taken in aid of the Alzheimers Research Trust, the charity funding research into a cure for the disease from which Sir Terry himself suffers.
Keiron Anderson, who wrote the music for the show and is also head of the school's Music Department, said "We could't be more grateful to Sir Terry for his support. The students are thrilled to be appearing in a show based on a book by one of their favourite authors and I think we've produced a musical which more than does justice to it."
Set in the curiously familiar town of "Bad Ilkley", The Amazing Maurice features a cynical cat, a "stupid looking kid" with a flute, and a rat-pack divided between newly educated rodents and diehards who think stealing cheese and "widdling" are still a rat's proudest achievements. There are two cliché-ridden football commentators, a bossy Mayor's daughter who sings a tongue-twisting competitor for the title of the world's fastest-ever song and a pair of villainous rat-catchers who dance a show-stopping tango. Another song celebrates the delights - and disadvantages - of Cascara, and a funk finale brings the audience to its feet, with a chorus that's also a useful life motto: 'Don't Eat The Green Wobbly Bit'!"
"It is the first ever public performance of The Amazing Maurice and "while it may be a student production," added Neil Hanson, "the acting, the sets and costumes, the acting, the songs and dance routines, and the lighting and sound are all absolutely professional quality - Ilkley audiences are in for a treat!"
